Cantık Recipe

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine dry yeast, sugar, and warm milk. Stir well and cover it. Let it rest for 10 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy.
  2. Add vegetable oil, salt, and gradually incorporate the flour into the mixture. Begin kneading the dough until it becomes smooth and doesn’t stick to your hands. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for 45 minutes to rise.
  3. Prepare the filling by combining ground beef, onions, green and red bell peppers, tomatoes, salt, black pepper, and cumin in a bowl. Cover the mixture with plastic wrap and set it aside until the dough rises.
  4. Once the dough has risen, gently knead it a few times to release any air bubbles.
  5. Divide the dough into approximately 12 equal-sized pieces, shaping them into small balls.
  6. Take one ball of dough and press the center with your fingertips, creating a hollow space. Repeat the same process for the remaining balls.
  7. Place the prepared dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and brush the edges with beaten egg yolk.
  8. Fill the hollow centers of the dough balls with the prepared filling, pressing it gently with a spoon to spread it evenly.
  9. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the cantıks for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
