How to Make Steamed Anchovies
Clean the anchovies by removing their bones. Rinse them thoroughly with plenty of water and sprinkle some salt on them. Then let the anchovies rest for 1 hour.
- Slice the onions into thin rings.
- Spread a portion of the sliced onions on the bottom of a baking tray. Place the anchovies on top of the onions, making sure they don’t overlap. Scatter the remaining onion slices over the anchovies.
- Drizzle olive oil, salt, and black pepper over the anchovies. Finally, place lemon slices inside the tray.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F) and bake the anchovies on the middle rack for 20 minutes. Then, move the tray to the top rack and bake for an additional 10 minutes, carefully monitoring the process.
- Steamed anchovies can be served hot or warm. Enhance their flavor by garnishing with fresh lemon slices.
